Heroin is usually injected into the arm. There are different ways to inject it. The most common routes are directly into a vein (intravenously), into muscle tissue (intramuscularly) or under the skin (subcutaneously).

Each method produces different effects. The heroin may reach the brain faster or more slowly, and it may arrive suddenly or more gradually.
