The routes of nicotine through the body

Nicotine is the active component of tobacco. Tobacco is manufactured from the leaves of the tobacco plant. Those leaves contain approximately 3 per cent nicotine.

Usually nicotine is ingested into the body by smoking, but it can also be taken in the mouth alone by using snus, chewing tobacco or nicotine chewing gum. Nicotine patches on the skin may also be used as a help in quitting smoking.
