General 4: The reward system

When smoked, nicotine emits strong signals within the brain’s reward system. This stimulates the reward system more than usual, giving you a pleasurable feeling.

Eventually, however, your body becomes accustomed to these stronger signals. You now feel less relaxed without the extra nicotine from a cigarette. You begin to crave cigarettes. You are addicted.
