Eating 2: Eating spacecake

Before the THC in the spacecake can be absorbed into the body, the cake has to be digested. This process starts in the mouth. Chewing finely grinds the spacecake and mixes it with saliva, whose digestive enzymes began breaking down the cake.

Once the cake is finely ground, it can be swallowed. As you swallow, your windpipe is closed off to keep you from choking. The spacecake is gradually pushed down to the stomach by a series of peristaltic (wavelike) contractions of the oesophagus wall. At the bottom of the oesophagus is the stomach.
