The organs
When you take drugs, the blood spreads them through the body – to and from all the organs.
- The lungs absorb drugs from the air (in smoke).
- The stomach and intestines absorb drugs that are eaten, drunk or taken by mouth.
- The heart pumps the blood containing the drugs through the body.
- The brain is influenced by the drugs, giving you different kinds of feelings.
- The liver processes and breaks down the drugs.
- The kidneys filter the waste matter from the drugs out of the bloodstream.
