General

From the liver to the heart

Blood containing nutrients, drugs and metabolites collects in the hepatic vein in the liver and flows to the heart. It is then pumped into the pulmonary circulation in order to absorb oxygen and release carbon dioxide in the air sacs of the lungs.

After the blood returns to the heart, it is pumped on to the rest of the body via the aorta.
