The two blood circuits function simultaneously

So far we have viewed systemic and pulmonary circulation separately, but they function at the same time. The muscles of the right and left heart chambers contract simultaneously.

In this way, blood flows continuously through the body. When the body is at rest, the heart pumps approximately 50 times a minute. Within 30 seconds, all of the blood has been pumped around the body.
