General 6: From the heart to the liver

Part of the blood from the aorta, still containing the cocaine molecules, flows through the hepatic artery to the liver. It diffuses there through the branches of the hepatic artery.

The portal vein brings in blood that has travelled via the small intestine. Later, when the cocaine molecules have spread throughout the body, some of them will also reach the liver via the portal vein.
