Injecting 1: Injecting cocaine

Injection (shooting up) is not a common mode of ingestion for recreational users of cocaine.

Ordinary powder cocaine is used for injection, because it is water-soluble. However, if the injected cocaine is not completely dissolved in the water, small chunks of cocaine may block a blood vessel and trigger a heart attack or stroke.

If the equipment used for injecting cocaine is not used safely, infectious diseases like AIDS or hepatitis may be transmitted.
